Our Story

Founded by Kyan Zabriskie, a young girl whose aunt lost her hair due to a prolonged illness. Kyan and her mother decided to grow out their hair and donate it to an organization who produces wigs for people with cancer loss…

One day, while riding through the narrow streets of Ubud, Bali, Kyan noticed a Balinese woman on a motorbike whose hair was so long, it almost touched the road. It was at this exact moment, that she decided to find out if there was an organization of this kind in Indonesia. Much to her surprise, there wasn’t one here and so she decided to start her own for Quest, an end-of-year capstone project in order to graduate from the eighth grade.

This was the beginning of Rambut untuk Harapan, Hair for Hope. At the age of 13, Kyan coordinated a hair-cutting event at her school, visited salons around Bali as well as the Yayasan Peduli Anak Kanker Bali and Sanglah Hospital, the largest hospital in Bali.

From this day forward, the project took on a life of its own and hair comes in almost everyday from all over the Indonesian archipelago.

We now have volunteers who assist with social media and handling of the inquiries because RUH is growing rapidly.
